All materials will be provided for use during class and a detailed list of materials will be provided should you want to pursue this art form on your own. You will create and take home your own painting a 4x4 canvas with easel. Sample designs will be provided as guides, but you be encouraged to create your own designs.
The goal of the beginning class is to HAVE FUN as you learn basic “dot painting” techniques and create an original work of art.
The name, mandala, comes from the Sanskrit word for circle and refers to the sense of wholeness created by circular forms. The details of the meaning of a given mandala depend on the individual creating or observing the image. Although the circle is the most common form, a mandala may be expressed in many different forms.
The 4 fundamental techniques which will allow you to create an endless number of designs include:
· The simple dot (where you will discover it’s not as simple as it looks)
· Painting dots-on-dots (this is where your basic design gains dimension)
· Walking dots (hmm, bet you’re wonder what that is)
· The swoosh (some consider this the most challenging technique of the four)
